Archaeological Dig Instructions
Each pair of archaeologists needs:
A clipboard and 2 sheets of graph paper
4 unsharpened pencils
2 sheets white lined paper
1. Create a scale drawing of the grid on Grid site. (Mark the x & y axis).
2. Locate ALL artifacts from the grid site to the scale drawing. (Location in the grid is very important!)
3. List the coordinates of all artifacts on the lined paper.
4. “Discover” an artifact to “excavate”. Indicate its location on your scale drawing.
5. Using your pencils as digging tools, unearth your artifact.
6. In writing, on lined paper:
a. Identify the different strata around your artifact.
b. Draw and label a diagram of the artifact.
7.Brainstorm with your partner about how your artifact was used in the past.
8.Create a well-written, three paragraph essay explaining your hypothesis.
